2009 Course Handbook
MAS104: Australian Media
This unit aims to give students an accessible introduction to the history and contemporary debates which shape the media in Australia. It is structured around four modules with each focusing on a different media sector - cinema, television, radio and print media. The unit provides students with a general overview of a specific media industry in Australia, followed by a focus on one or more significant aspects of media content. Finally, each module examines contemporary issues of importance to that industry and its cultures. Students will study tools that are vital to be informed and critical media consumers, producers and citizens. This unit provides a solid basis upon which to pursue further courses in media.
