MAS223: Radio Production

This course introduces students to radio and audio production within a media industry context and with attention to the nature of this rapidly changing and expanding medium and its interrelationships with listeners and society. Core principles and practices of radio broadcasting (pre-recorded digital sound production) are taught with attention to public, commercial and community radio forms internationally. Students are also introduced to the new and expanding realm of online radios: web radio, streaming, podcasting and other emergent 'radiophonic' forms. The course comprises a large practical component involving the use of digital facilities and equipment. Lectures cover history, theories and practices relating to the medium's development, its forms and organization. Workshops concentrate on the techniques and skills to produce audio feature packages with creative outcomes targeted to actual broadcasting stations.
