2009 Course Handbook
MAS224: Advanced Radio Broadcasting
This unit builds on the understanding of principles and practices of radio broadcasting (digital sound production) taught in MAS223. This course connects students to the latest developments in digital audio production and extends students experiences and knowledge of radio through attention to live and actual daily broadcasting situations and professional roles. Lectures cover principles and practices of radio programming, presentation and audio production including radio journalism. Theories and issues relating to radio, especially as they pertain to online audio, public broadcasting and community radio, are a feature. Using industry standard digital facilities and equipment, students produce a range of audio items for broadcast within a live to air program: interviews, voice presentations, promotions and documentary and other entertainment/musical items. MAS224 also prepares those students wishing to pursue the Internship program (radio) and the MAS316 Seminar Unit in Media leading to the Honours programme (with a production in radio and/or a thesis component in radio theory/history).
