MAS328: Contemporary World Cinemas

Contemporary World Cinemas engages with specialist areas of film theory in diverse social and cultural contexts. It deals with the question of alternative aesthetics in films produced outside the Hollywood mainstream. In any given semester, Contemporary World Cinemas concentrates on one or more of the various international "cinemas of the moment", those forms of cinema that are exciting widespread critical attention, at times exclusively in non-English speaking circles. Weekly screenings of recent releases accompany lectures and tutorials. Students interested in pursuing film production or criticism are strongly encouraged to undertake this unit.
