MCD348: Advanced Macedonian III

A continuation of MCD337, this unit is designed for students with an advanced knowledge of Macedonian. Specific linguistic topics will be discussed -- the historical development of the Macedonian language, the codification of the Macedonian standard language and dialectology (the differentiation of the Macedonian dialects). It explores the notions of languages in contact and contrastive analysis (Macedonian-English) in relation to the position of the Macedonian language in Australia. Students will be introduced to research methods and fieldwork in dialectology and sociolinguistics. Practical stylistic exercises and the translation of texts in the scholarly register are provided.
