STAT270: Applied Statistics

This unit is designed to provide students with the expertise necessary to develop the techniques introduced in STAT170. It will consolidate and extend knowledge of the fundamentals of modern statistical practice. The unit concentrates on the analysis and reporting of studies undertaken to answer questions in areas such as medicine, economics, biology, computer software development, market research and the social sciences.

Topics covered will include statistical inference, data handling, one way and two way analysis of variance and simple and multiple regression. Database techniques are introduced using MS Access and knowledge of statistical packages is extended. Students are given instruction and practice in the discipline of writing statistical reports.
